With the acquisition of Sentech, Omron plans to develop a compact, high-definition smart camera that can be easily installed virtually anywhere.

In a bid to reinforce its capabilities for factory automation technologies, Japanese company Omron has entered into an agreement to acquire industrial camera manufacturer Sentech.

The acquisition is expected to be completed on July 3, 2017, and the name of the new company is intended to be Omron Sentech, Omron said in a statement.

Sentech develops machine vision systems from industrial applications as well as cameras for various medical and laboratory applications. The Kanagawa-based company offers more than 200 models of industrial cameras developed through its own advanced camera design technology.

The merger will see Omron acquire Sentech's ultra-compact high-resolution cameras, along with related design and development technologies. Combining Omron's industrial robots and quality inspection systems with Sentech's cameras will pave the way for the integration of the advanced cameras into any stage of manufacturing, from processing and assembly to inspection, according to Omron.

With the acquisition of Sentech, Omron plans to develop an ultra-compact and high-definition smart camera that can be easily installed virtually anywhere. This can be achieved by combining Sentech's design technology for creating compact, high-resolution and high-speed cameras with Omron's high-speed and high-accuracy image processing technology, the company said.
