Fujitsu unveils 25-petaflop supercomputer, Xeon Phi inside

Fujitsu, in partnership with universities in Tokyo and Tsukuba, has launched the Oakforest-PACS supercomputer to contribute to R&D across Japan.

Fujitsu has developed the Oakforest-PACS supercomputer at the Joint Centre for Advanced High Performance Computing (JCAHPC) jointly run by the University of Tokyo and the University of Tsukuba.

The supercomputer comprises Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY CX600 M1 x86 servers as well as Intel Xeon Phi processors, which bring in the theoretical 25 petaflops of processing.

The Oakforest-PACS supercomputer has reached 13.55 petaflops on the LINPACK benchmark. It has also reached 385.5 teraflops on the HPCG (High Performance Conjugate Gradient) benchmark, a performance indicator close to actual performance in applications.

Fujitsu will support the Oakforest-PACS supercomputer, which will contribute to R&D projects to be operated by the University of Tokyo and the University of Tsukuba.
