The collaboration aims to develop SIL4 commercial-off-the-shelf systems based on Artesyn’s ControlSafe platform.

The adoption of the safety integrity level 4 (SIL4) safety standard is a global trend in the rail industry. With that, Artesyn and Hyukshin have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for developing rail signalling systems based on Artesyn’s ControlSafe platform. The collaboration aims to establish SIL4 commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) systems for train control and rail signalling.

Artesyn’s ControlSafe Platform and ControlSafe Expansion Box Platform have been both certified to SIL4 by TÜV SÜD. With shared safety architecture, it is easy to transfer applications between the two and deploy as a common platform. This data lock-step architecture and hardware-based voting mechanism supports modern processors, and is designed to accommodate additional I/O interfaces as well as new processor designs that will be required throughout the product life cycle.

Seunghyun Park, marketing director at Hyukshin Engineering, said that the Artesyn’s ControlSafe Platform can help their company accelerate time-to-market for its’ next generation computer-based interlocking (CBI) systems.
