Technavio lists the prominent vendors that are expected to impact the global electrical resistors market.

Technavio has announced the top five leading vendors in their recent global electrical resistors market report until 2020. This research report also lists nine other prominent vendors that are expected to impact the market during the forecast period.

Included in the list is Japan-based Murata, which manufactures ceramic electronic components with an overwhelming share worldwide in high-frequency parts, ceramic filters, and sensors. Aside from Japan, Murata also has presence in China, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Canada, US, Finland, and the Netherlands.

The company offers various high voltage resistors that are used for office equipment and home appliances, including printers, air-conditioners, and copying machines. These offer high resistance and small deviation values and also help to achieve precise control at high voltages.

Joining Murata is TE Connectivity. The Schaffhausen, Switzerland-headquartered company designs and manufactures connectivity and sensor solutions. The company operates through four reportable segments, including transportation solutions, industrial solutions, network solutions, and consumer solutions. TE Connectivity offers its products to various markets, including automotive, industrial equipment, telecom networks, aerospace, defence, oil, and gas, consumer devices, energy, data communications, enterprise networks, appliances, and subsea communications.

Also in the listed is U.S. manufacturer Vishay Intertechnology. Founded in 1962, the Pennsylvania-based company is considered as one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors, including diodes, transistors, and rectifiers. It also manufactures optoelectronics and select ICs and passive electronic components, including resistors, inductors, capacitors, sensors, and transducers.

Vishay manufactures various resistive products, including single (discrete) resistors based on thin film, thick film, metal oxide film, metal electrode leadless face, carbon film, plastic film, and wire wound technologies; battery management shunts; power metal strip resistors; fuses; and pyrotechnic initiators and igniters.

Rounding up the top five are Cressall Resistors and Koa Speer. Cressall Resistors, which is based in the UK, engages in the design and manufacturing of electrical resistors for use in power generation, marine and offshore electrical systems, high and medium voltage power distribution, drives and controls of cranes, rail traction, hoists and industrial machinery, and standby power systems.

U.S.-based Koa Speer, meanwhile, manufactures surface mount passive components for circuit design applications. It offers resistors, capacitors, circuit protection, EMI/ EMC filtering, inductors, modules, and thermal protection products. The company offers these products to various markets, including computers, telecommunications, automotive, and industrial controls. KOA Speer operates as a subsidiary of KOA Corporation.

"The global electrical resistor market is characterised by the presence of well-diversified international and regional vendors. Regional players are finding it difficult to compete with international players in terms of technology and pricing," said Anju Ajaykumar, a lead test and measurement research analyst from Technavio. "Vendors in the market are constantly looking for ways to enhance their quality by focusing on innovative designs and technology. The highly competitive environment has prompted many vendors to increase their R&D investment to introduce innovative products into the market, essentially catering to the requirements of power generation from the renewable energy."

Update from the Editor (August 30, 2016): We contacted Technavio to explain how they derived their ranking. While the detailed information from thier report requires purchase, they told me in an email that they have covered the present scenario and growth prospects of the global electrical resistor market during the period 2016-2020. To quote:

"To calculate the market size, the report takes into account the market demand from the following end-user segments: Power supplies, Power transmission and distribution, Drives and inverters, Motors and Others.

"We have had primary interactions with these specific companies to confirm the information. Firstly, Vishay has strong experience in the resistors market and a solid foothold in the global market. Second, TE Connectivity is also present in the electrical resistors business. As stated below, they have not exited from this particular business.

The above information has been confirmed through primary interactions."
