The hermetically-sealed VHB2805S from International Rectifier operates from -35°C to 215°C and has a life expectancy of more than 500 hours at 215°C, and targets oil exploration applications.
International Rectifier’s HiRel Group has announced what it describes as an off-the-shelf DC/DC converter that provides up to 5W to down-hole drilling tools used in oil exploration. According to the company, the single-output, hermetically-sealed VHB2805S operates over a temperature range of -35°C to 215°C and has a life expectancy of more than 500 hours at 215°C.
The VHB2805S accepts an input voltage of 17V to 34V and provides output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, 12V or 15V. Minimum efficiency is 75% at 25°C. The converter employs a forward active-clamp topology and incorporates an internal EMI filter. Nominal switching frequency is 440kHz. Electrical isolation and tight output regulation are achieved through the use of a magnetically coupled feedback.
All variants of the VHB28 converter include an external inhibit port and have an adjustable output voltage. Package dimensions of the rugged hybrid assembly are 25.4mm x 10.2mm x 95.3mm. The cold rolled steel hermetic can weighs less than 95g.
